BaseN
Pasi Hurri – CEO & Founder of BaseN CorporationPasi Hurri is the President and CEO of BaseN Corporation, a global pioneer in full-stack Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Twin, and Artificial Intelligence platforms. Since founding BaseN in 2001, Hurri has led the company’s transformation from a small startup into a global digital infrastructure provider, operating in over 80 countries and managing billions of digital entities known as spimes—digital twins with full lifecycle awareness.Hurri’s passion for resilient, scalable technology systems is rooted in his early career as a radar engineer in the Finnish Air Force. There, he developed a deep understanding of distributed, mission-critical systems designed to remain operational even under heavy duress. These foundational principles of resilience and situational awareness continue to influence his approach to building digital infrastructure today. Before establishing BaseN, Hurri held senior technology leadership positions in some of the most critical European network and cloud infrastructure initiatives. As the lead engineer for KPNQwest’s Eurorings—Europe’s then-largest IP backbone—he was instrumental in building a network that carried over half of the continent’s internet traffic. He also served as Chairman of FICIX (the Finnish Commercial Internet Exchange) and was a board member of Academica Oy, now part of Equinix.Under his leadership, BaseN has enabled digital transformation for industries ranging from energy and manufacturing to maritime and defense. One of the most notable projects under Hurri’s guidance was the development of a full-scale digital twin for Norsepowers wind-assisted rotor sails, which significantly reduce fuel consumption in commercial shipping. These innovations underscore his commitment to creating sustainable, high-performance solutions using real-time data and analytics.Hurri is a recognized thought leader and a senior member of the IEEE. He has served as Vice Chair of the IEEE Finland Joint Chapter of Control Systems, Robotics & Automation, and Systems, Man & Cybernetics Societies. He frequently speaks at global conferences, industry panels, and universities, delivering thought-provoking talks on IoT architecture, cybersecurity, edge computing, and sustainable innovation. In 2024, Hurri was honored with the IEEE Communications Society CQR Best Speaker Award at the IEEE CQR Workshop in Seattle. This recognition reflects not only his technical depth and clarity in communication but also his continued leadership in shaping discussions on cloud readiness, cyber resilience, and the evolution of digital ecosystems. His academic background includes studies in Information Technology at Aalto University (formerly Helsinki University of Technology), and executive education in emerging technologies at Stanford University. He also completed radar surveillance and systems training at the Finnish Air Force C3 School.Outside of his professional pursuits, Hurri is a licensed private pilot, certified rescue diver, and holds a general class radio amateur license—testaments to his curious mind and hands-on engagement with technology in all forms. At the AIoT World Expo, Pasi Hurri will share his vision for a hyperconnected future built on Digital Twin platforms and autonomous systems, and how industries can harness these technologies to become more adaptive, efficient, and sustainable.
